Why Can't You Read Me? is the thirteenth episode of Happy Endings. It was written by Prentice Penny and directed by Lee Shallat-Chemel. It is the thirteenth episode of the series overall, and premiered on August 24, 2011.
Max is bothered that good reality TV doesn't exist anymore. Where did the real unscripted reality TV go? And no, he will not watch documentaries. Those are for lesbians. On to more interesting news -- Penny just got a promotion! She gets a raise, a bigger office and an assistant. She vows to never become a Devil Wears Prada kind of boss, but more like a cool, casual boss. Something tells us that this won't go as planned. Come to think of it, nothing Penny wants ever goes as planned.
Penny's assistant, nicknamed Ri-Ri, gets Penny a new high-tech cell phone. This phone makes Penny the star of a new reality TV show she doesn't even realize she's in. Penny keeps accidentally pocket-dialing Max, which gets him hooked on Penny's unscripted life. Max even gets Brad to tune in to the 24/7 show. Too bad they can't tell her that her assistant is playing her for a fool. Ri-Ri has been spending money on the company car without permission, she keeps lying to get out of work early and she's even drinking on the job. Penny tries to play it cool, but we all know it's a matter of time before she cracks.
Later that night at the bar, Dave gets hit on by a waitress. Even though she's cute, she's kind of a tough girl. Maybe too tough for Dave but he goes for the kill anyway. The pair quickly sleeps together and she suggests that they try something a little more adventurous next time. Maybe a videotape could be involved? When they do finally get to taping and reviewing the dirty deed, all Dave's new girl can do is break down their video play-by-play. It isn't exactly the touchdown Dave was hoping for.
